blog_plasticbagban1Customers will have to ask for free plastic bags from now on, a New Cross supermarket has announced.

New Cross Road Sainsburys’ introduced the move as part of a national scheme launched in October.

“We’re all trying to be greener these days,” said Rob Lewis, store manager: “I’m pleased we’re doing our bit.”

The move has divided customers. “It’s a good idea,” said housewife Maureen Ellis, 49. “I bring my own bag for groceries.” However, Simon Jones, a 31 year old student said: “They still give me the bag but now they irritate me by making me ask for it.”
